Directing Ashley Furnitures summer blockbuster
Picture an ad with a furniture storeowner walking through his showroom, images of people lounging comfortably on a sofa and a price flashing on TV. Furniture ads are all the same, right? Well, that is unless you're the national furniture chain that worked with Centra to create a blockbuster entertainment tie-in that drove traffic to stores and increased sales.
To break the mold of "normal" furniture store consumer marketing, we found a unique partner – Garfield: The Movie. Furniture showrooms were decorated with Garfield merchandise and point-of-purchase materials depicting Garfield interacting with products. TV spots and circulars supported the campaign as well as in-theater events. Garfield cartoonist Jim Davis even created strips portraying the often-lounging Garfield using the store’s recliners. We developed and directed an integrated consumer promotion including an online Garfield Rules sweepstakes that offered a trip to the movie premiere and a beautiful furniture package.
The chain of furniture stores saw a significant year-to-year sales increase. SKUs were up in early summer, a slow time for indoor furniture sales. Centra’s marketing strategy and execution were recognized with both a Reggie and a Promo award. The Garfield: The Movie promotion was a summer blockbuster.
